Serial Port Monitor is a port monitor, sniffer and analyzer for real or virtual COM, RS232, RS485, and RS422 ports    

Brief description:

This program allows you to check the flow of data through a computer's COM ports. As you can see from the software name, this application can work as a serial port monitor. It supports full-duplex mode, flexible adjusting of parameters, logging data to file, automatic and manual modes, various data sources, serial device simulation, plugins, and the sniffer mode. It is recommended for advanced users and automation specialists.

What problems can be solved with Advanced Serial Port Monitor?

You can work without any effort with any equipment working over any RS232/RS485/RS422 serial interface. You can use the serial port monitor to monitor data exchange between serial devices connected to a serial port and any Windows application. It may be the measuring device, the industrial controller or amateur radio station, and the other personal computer connected through a z-modem cable. In any case, you will work with a friendly and convenient interface with maximum comfort.

Note! You won't have to install any additional hardware or software to analyze the protocol. All you need is just the Advanced Serial Port Monitor application installed on your computer!

Getting started is easy. Advanced Serial Port Monitor is ready!

After installation, start Advanced Serial Port Monitor, then connect one device to a free serial port. Select the COM number and click the "Open" button. Now, you can send data to your device and receive data from them. You can change the program mode (terminal or sniffer) from the "Mode" menu. (Step-by-step tutorial is here)

Features:

Sniffer (Spy) mode. Using this mode, you can monitor data exchange between an external device connected to a serial port and Windows applications;

RS232 Terminal Mode. Our software is not just a sniffer. Using the RS232 terminal mode, you can send and receive any data from a serial port to debug and diagnose your external devices;

HEX and ASCII. Displays incoming and outgoing data in HEX, ASCII or binary formats;

Flexible configuration. Our serial port monitor supports the different baud rates (up to 921600), user-defined baud rates, number of data bits, number of stop bits, different parity types, hardware or software flow control, and other. You can change all communication parameters at any time;

Sending data. With Advanced Serial Port Monitor you can send data manually (click over "Send" button) or automatically through defined by you interval (from 10ms to 10000ms);

Any data source. The serial port monitor can send data from text or binary files. Also, you may type a data string in the program window. You can insert characters with code from 0 to 31 (0 - 2F Hex) from a popup menu;

Log files. The program can save all received bytes to a file (for example, if the data flow is high-speed), and you can analyze that file later;

Plugins. With our plugins you can transfer files, emulate MODBUS or ASCII devices, debug and execute scripts;

Full duplex mode. The program can process data in both directions (from and to computer) in a full-duplex manner (receive and transmit at the same time);

Build-in scripting engine. With this feature, you can run Advanced Serial Port Monitor with predefined options and actions or execute commands from plugins.
